Northwood Assembly Opens New Campus at Carnes Crossroads
January 10, 2012 | Around Town
Northwood Church recently opened its doors to the first phase of its new campus at Carnes Crossroads. The brand-new 65,000 square foot facility serves over 2,000 parishioners and includes a main auditorium, childcare center, children’s chapel, youth ministry environment and administrative offices. Other highlights include a Coffee Cafe and a “connection center,” a designated area that offers members access to a wireless Internet connection. The new campus is the first component of the planned community that is being developed at Carnes Crossroads by the Daniel Island Company.
Among the highlights of the new facility is space for the Northwood Academy preschool, which is scheduled to open in 2013 and will serve children ages six weeks through K4. Adjacent to the interactive Kid’s Town Chapel, the preschool incorporates state-of-the-art classrooms designed specifically to accommodate the needs of young children by engaging them in spacious, colorful surroundings with an abundance of natural light.
Future phases of the Northwood campus will include the addition of Northwood Academy’s lower and upper schools.
For more than 30 years, Northwood has provided an interdenominational fellowship for a diverse body of worshipers, offering comprehensive services to the community including child care, counseling, boys’ and girls’ clubs, education, community outreach, sports programs and pastoral care. It has taken a non-traditional approach to church growth, choosing to help start local, community churches instead of building a “mega church” campus. The reach and influence of Northwood in the Charleston region is extensive: It has financially sponsored and sent trained teams of people to establish community churches in Mt. Pleasant, peninsular Charleston, West Ashley, Summerville and Moncks Corner. Northwood’s new campus at Carnes Crossroads will remain the center of the church’s activities.
