Tree Trimming Class & Volunteer Group
October 21, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am
It’s that time of year again to start planning for tree trimming. Join resident, Jack Soullier to learn tips on trimming trees at the Green Barn on Saturday, October 21st from 10 AM to 11 AM. He will have handouts and will discuss how to care for your personal trees, the proper trimming techniques, the proper tools to use, why trimming is important and try to answer all of your questions. This class will be similar to last years discussion.
Jack has helped answer many questions asked by other property owners regarding tree care. He encourages everyone to prune your trees near your home so as to prepare them for their lifespan. These trees can grow into very tall trees in years to come, so spending a little time to maintain them now will help to save time and money down the road. The street trees have the potential to be the height and size of the oaks at the entrance to Carnes Crossroads at 1st Avenue and the ones around the Village Green Park in about 5 to 7 years.
We’re always looking for volunteers to help us in the 4-6 weeks we spend in trimming of the street trees. We’ll take your help and time when you can. We usually work for 3-4 hours (or whatever you can provide) on Saturdays and sometimes Sundays. This year, I expect trimming will be less labor intensive due to last year’s work we did.
As you may already know, the tree-trimming group has completed 200 hours in residential pruning in St. James Park on the trees between the side walk and the street. The Tree Trimming Volunteer Group is always looking for additional help to focus on the 4 to 6 week time frame that is best for tree trimming coming up in the winter months. The group typically works for several hours on Saturdays and sometimes on Sundays, but any time you can volunteer is appreciated. Please email Jack if you are interested in volunteering to assist with the tree trimming group and he can add you on the volunteer list.
